They pitched and swerved and turned, snaking through the alleys and causeways. A man in the parking lot in front of the building fumbled with his car door, just got it open, but then they came swarming and splashing violently toward him and he ran, turning and sprinting as fast as his body could manage toward the end of the street. Seetho's mind floated in a vast nothingness, free from the touch and corruption of the outside. This afforded him no shortage of contemplation on why he was still alive, on all the pain that coursed, ghostlike, through his body. Sometimes, he wasn't even sure he was still alive, and then he would feel a terrible ripple of raw emotion slither through him, and he knew that nothing dead could hate so much. But it did not start, it never started, with loathing, with betrayal. As always, his thoughts would begin with the queen of his nightmares.
